Frequently
asked questions and Technical Support problems
Following are the seven most common technical support
problems/questions we receive for the Bible Library
Version 2.x
1.
Where's the Old Testament
2. Error Reading CD-ROM
3. Printing Text
4. Using the ClipBoard
5. Printing the Maps
6. Copying Bibles to Harddrive
7. Window Resizing
#1
Where's the Old Testament?
Bible Library for Windows ver 2.0 does not allow for
resizing, therefore if the Windows "taskbar"
(where the start button is located) properties are not
set to "Auto Hide" it will cover up approximately
5% of the total viewing area. This causes the lower
or upper sections to be obscured and the user does not
see how to locate the Old Testament books. To remedy
this you will simply need to click the "start button"
then click on "settings" then click on "taskbar"
and check the option labeled "auto hide" then
click on "ok".
This will
automatically hide the taskbar when not in use and will
reappear when your cursor is close to the bottom or
top of the screen (depending on where the taskbar is).
You may also download the free update availible on our
download page and this will allow the program to adapt
to the screen size no matter what that size is.
#2
Error reading CD-ROM Drive Bible Library
for Windows version 2.0 searches all available drives
for the Bible Library CD-ROM to automatically link the
program files with the data files. Because Zip drives,
Syquest drives, CD-ROM drives etc. all appear the same,
the program will indicate an error if one of those drives
does not have any media in it (disc, cartridge, tape
etc.). At that point you may choose to ignore the error
(by clicking the ignore button) and the program will
continue normally. This error will not occur if the
drive has media in it. You may also download our free
version 2.1 update that has intelligent error correcting
code built-in and this will not occur even if the drive
has no media. The update may be found on our download
page.
#3
Printing Text Printing from the Bible Library
program is pretty powerful, in the way that it handles
the infomation to be printed. The first examples illustrate
the use of the Windows clipboard.
You can highlight
the text to be printed and press (CTRL+C) and this will
send the data to the Windows clipboard and that data
is now ready to be pasted into any Windows program.
Windows95 users need only to highlight the text and
then, with the cursor over the highlighted text, press
the right mouse button and select copy.
The clipboard
options built into the Bible Library program allow the
user to copy the selected data to a file named "clipbord.txt"
this option will open the file and paste the text at
the end of that file, then the next time that data is
sent to the Bible Library clipboard file the program
will open the same file and once again paste the data
at the end of that file and then close the file. When
you are ready to print the data you simply need to open
the clipboard file and select print. The options for
the Bible Libray clipboard are as follows:
The top menu
item under the menu option "Clipboard" indicates
the name and location of the file in which the program
adds the data to. The next menu item allows the user
to change the clipboard filename. Next is the option
that allows the user to delete the clipboard file (starting
fresh). The next menu item is the "paste to clipboard"
option which copies only the selected text to the clipboard
file. The second to the last menu item is the option
that allows you to highlight any portion of the verse(s)
and when selected this option will paste the highlighted
verses the the clipboard file in their entirety. If
no text is highlighted then the program will copy the
entire chapter of that book to the clipboard file. The
final menu item will open the clipboard file allowing
the user to change, manipulate, or print the file.
These powerful
features allow the user handle large amounts of data
without having to jump back and forth from the Bible
program to a wordprocessor and having to copy and paste
each time.
#4
Using the Clipboard Windows has a clipboard
program that allows you to copy and paste any text from
our program to any other Windows program. The following
commands are common to most Windows programs:
1.) Highlight
the text to be copied.
2.) While
holding down the "CTRL" key press and release
the "C" key. (CTRL+C)
This will
send the selected text to the clipboard program allowing
you to paste it into any Windows
program that
allows text. In Windows95 you only need to highlight
the text and then (with your mouse over the selected
text) press your right mouse button and select copy.
The Bible
Library for Windows program has a built-in clipboard
option...this option allows you to select a file that
the program will use to paste the text to. This option
eliminates the need to switch back and foreth between
the two programs "copying and pasteing".
To use the
"paste to clipboard" funtion.
1.) Highlight
the text to be copied.
2.) Under
the "Clipboard" menu item on the "Bibles
with References" window select the "Paste
to clipboard" option. You may also use the "CTRL
+ P" keys to preform the same task.
3.) At this
point you may either execute steps 1 and 2 again using
different text or you may use the "Open clipboard
file" option (also found under the Clipboard menu
item) to open and manipulate or print the text. Make
sure to close the file when you are through printing
etc.
To use the
"paste verses to clipboard" funtion.
The main
difference between the "paste to clipboard"
and the "paste verses to clipboard" fuctions
are that "paste to clipboard" only pastes
the selected text, and "paste verses to clipboard"
pastes the whole verse(s) even if only part of the verse
is selected.
1.) Highlight
the text to be copied.
2.) Under
the "Clipboard" menu item on the "Bibles
with References" window select the "Paste
verses to clipboard" option. You may also use the
"F4" funtion key to preform the same task.
3.) At this
point you may either execute steps 1 and 2 again using
different text or you may use the "Open clipboard
file" option (also found under the Clipboard menu
item) to open and manipulate or print the text. Make
sure to close the file when you are through printing
etc.
Note: Under
the "Clipboard" menu item on the "Bibles
with References" window on the top line will be
the name and location of the file that will have the
text added to it. You may make a note in the section
and then include it in your selected area to be pasted
(this note will cease to excist if you change books,
Bibles, or if you close the program).
#5
Printing the Maps The maps in The Bible Library
for Windows program are bitmaps which means that you
can open them with your MS-PaintBrush program that ships
with Windows. In the Bible Library for Windows 2.1 this
is done by pressing "F-10" while the image
is on-screen (this opens MS-PaintBrush program with
the image). With version 2.0 you must manually open
the image, first you would need to open the MS-PaintBrush
program and then open the map image. The map images
are located on the CD-ROM under a directory named "Maps".
Unfortunately the images are not labeled by description
rather by a numbering sequence so you may have to open
several maps before finding the correct map. After opening
the image you may then print the image or make any changes
and then print the image.
#6
Copying Bibles to the Hard Drive
This option provides a method of copying Bibles from
the main database file to a file named "Bible1.dat"
on the hard disk. If this file is already available
on the CD-ROM, the option will not be available. This
program can copy any combination of the first nine Bibles
onto disk. Other translations may be added at a later
date. However, in order to delete a translation once
it has been copied, the whole file must first be deleted.
Also, aborting a copy in progress will delete the entire
"Bible1.dat" file which can be anywhere from
2 to 32 Megabytes. Note: Bible searches may be as much
as 10 times faster for the translations that are copied
to the "Bible1.dat" file.
#7
Window Resizing Bible Library for Windows
ver 2.0 does not allow for resizing, therefore if the
Windows "taskbar" (where the start button
is located) properties are not set to "Auto Hide"
it will cover up approximately 5% of the total viewing
area. This causes the lower or upper sections to be
obscured and the user does not see how to locate the
Old Testament books. To remedy this you will simply
need to click the "start button" then click
on "settings" then click on "taskbar"
and check the option labeled "auto hide" then
click on "ok". This will automatically hide
the taskbar when not in use and will reappear when your
cursor is close to the bottom or top of the screen (depending
on where the taskbar is). You may also download the
free update availible on our download page and this
will allow the program to adapt to the screen size no
matter what that size is.
